"WHEN is first and foremost a community, and we cannot make the necessary change without you."

We caught up with WHEN's Business Development Manager to find out her why and hear what she's most looking forward to at WHEN

What drew you to become part of WHEN?

I have always been passionate about true gender equality and dreamt of a world that is fair for every woman no matter their background. Today, we can’t just sit back and dream. We must be proactive to start seeing that change. Throughout my time in Higher Education, the lack of diverse voices and lived experience was concerning but common. I know now that to achieve true equality, we must examine all the institutions that surround us, and focus on empowering the women within them to help them achieve their greatest potential.

WHEN’s cause struck a chord with me. I was immediately drawn to WHEN’s completely intersectional approach, and the ground-breaking progress that has been achieved through the 100 Black Women Professors Now programme. Another thing that struck me was the focus on community and the vital role that plays in societal evolution.

The chance to apply my personal beliefs to a meaningful, professional pursuit excites me and I am eager to be a part of the change.

What are you looking forward to bringing to WHEN?

Throughout my career, I have worked at leading UK charities developing my skills within project management, business development, relationship management and marketing. On top of this, I have dedicated volunteering time to mentoring and supporting women who have recently been discharged from secure psychiatric institutions. The combination of my commerciality, and my empathy will enable me to bring a unique outlook to the WHEN team as we focus on our growth and development. But what I value most is my creativity and futuristic thinking- something which will enable us to foster innovation and evolution within the organisation.

What do you need from the WHEN membership to support you to succeed?

WHEN is first and foremost a community, and we cannot make the necessary change without you. To succeed, we need honest and authentic feedback on what has worked, but also what hasn’t. In a similar strain, I am passionate about harnessing the power of storytelling to boost awareness. To help us reach more women and institutions, we need ambassadors to champion our cause within their peers across the sector. And finally, my greatest learnings will come from connecting and meeting you all. I welcome conversations with anyone who is keen to connect with me via Linkedin or by email at [email protected]
